Widgets Evolve Into Web Rings 2.0
Do you remember the Web rings that were around in the 1990s on the Internet? While they’re coming again and in a big way and in the form of widgets.
Publishers are being provided with a way to improve their page views by either syndicating their content someplace else or driving intra site traffic using widgets created by widget providers.
There are two widget companies that are interesting enough to look at at this time.
The Widgetbox Blog Network is a community of bloggers and publishers connected by a single widget showcasing content across your marketing channel or niche.
They have a network that allows you to place your blog into an interest channel - such as Home and Garden - and then install a widget that links to content from other members of that channel and instantly reach a large, targeted community of active bloggers and readers.
Lijit’s integration with WordPress.org lets you either install the Lijit Search widget OR have Lijit power your existing WordPress search box. Lijit stats will automatically display within your WordPress dashboard for one-stop stats viewing too.
The Lijit search ‘wijit’ allows your visitors to search through not only your blog content, but also your extended social network. You can combine a number of your social networking accounts (delicious, facebook, mybloglog, etc.). When you install the widget on your blog, all of these accounts are indexed and searchable through the widget.
