My Stroke of Insight

By Bruce • on November 5, 2008

A brain scientist’s journey from a debilitating stroke to full recovery becomes an inspiring exploration of human consciousness and its possibilities.

Jill Bolte Taylor was a 37-year-old Harvard-trained and published brain scientist when a blood vessel exploded in her brain.  Through the eyes of a curious neuroanatomist, she watched her mind completely deteriorate whereby she could not walk, talk, read, write, or recall any of her life.

Because of her understanding of how the brain works, her respect for the cells composing her human form, and an amazing mother, Jill completely recovered her mind, brain and body.

Watch Jill tell her amazing personal story in this video.

Her presentation blew me away the first time I heard it, and my second and third viewings have been just as powerful.  I’ve already made some changes in my life as a result of her words.

What an awesome story. Hard for me to imagine just how she felt but does make you realize that she was very fortunate to get proper help when she needed it. What an amazing thing that she could remember all of those emotions.
